The Surrey Community Foundation has been successful in their bid to secure a new funding programme to support voluntary led community groups in Surrey . The Grassroots programme includes 2 elements: Grassroots Grants is a national programme (2008-2011) funded by the Office of the Third Sector to support small, voluntary led community groups to build stronger and more active communities. In Surrey , over £1 million is available over the 3 years to support local communities. Grants for running costs or capital items of between £250 and £5,000 are available for small groups with a turnover of less than £20,000 per year. PLUS Grassroots Endowment challenge – In addition, just over £1 million over 3 years is also available in Surrey if we can match it with £2 million – this will build a permanent community fund to award grants in perpetuity. Guidance notes and a short application form are available by post or email. Groups can apply anytime and there is a quick turn round for decisions. In addition to Grassroots, Surrey Community Foundation also has an on-going grant programme consisting of a number of funds established by individuals, families, trusts and companies. Local groups and charities of any size benefiting people in Surrey are eligible to apply. Please do not hesitate to contact Surrey Community Foundation if you would like to discuss a possible application, either from their donor funds or from the grassroots programme. The Foundation welcomes the opportunity to discuss projects and funding needs and can help with applications. They can also advise which grant programme to apply for.
